Great, thanks. Then once I see the audio version in Zoom recordings, how do I get it to warpwire?

Thanks for that zoom guide to video layout.

I do have “create audio only” file selected in my settings. But only a video version showed up in warpwire. How would I access the audio file?

    Hi folks,
Two Zoom questions and one Zoom thank you:

    Questions:
—when I share screen with my class, I want to be able to mostly see the class, since I know what’s on the screen I’m sharing! But the way it works seems to be showing me the screen, with just a small portion of student faces on the side. Is there any way to switch this? To share the screen, but have it be minimized on my end so I’m still seeing mostly my student’s faces?

—The College just sent an annoying email about privacy and class recordings, asking us to consider various practices but without providing any instructions. It does seem like a good idea, for student privacy reasons, to consider “ audio-only recording or video that only displays the instructor and class materials without showing students’ faces” as they said. But how does one do that? Get Zoom to record showing only instructor and class materials?

Thank you Matt Osment for the link to how to get Zoom recordings to go automatically onto warpwire! That saved me a bunch of time and thought.

No, it was when I tried to manually assign him to a group that he would get the internal server error. We tried several times.

I’ll have him use the desktop app and also put a ticket into ITS.

—yes, we’re both using unc account
    —no, breakout rooms not preassigned
—Are you asking me or the student if we are using app or browser?
—I go to zoom.unc.edu like we were taught. Is that the desktop app?

I have one student who can get into the main room for class, but not the breakout rooms. He says he keeps getting an “internal service error.” It is just for our class — he can get into breakout rooms for his other classes. Very strange! Any thoughts? He is being super diligent about trying but I’m sure it must be frustrating for him.

me again! I am pre-assigning breakout rooms for my Zoom class meeting tomorrow. There are six students whose names don’t come up to allow me to assign them, but they assure me that they have a Zoom account and that it’s working for their other classes. ideas for fixing? Thanks, Susan

nevermind – after I posted this I figured out that I can just type in the email manually and it works!

    Hi, two questions:
    1. I’m setting up a recurring meeting for my class, so they only have one meeting id to keep track of. We will be meeting during class time, but not every time, so I want to make it “no fixed time.” But . . . What exactly does that mean in terms of when the meeting starts and who in fact can start it?

I do want to enable people to join before me so they can chat. But I don’t like the idea of a meeting id floating around out there that anyone could use at anytime.

    2. I have a class of 23. I’m guessing I won’t be able to see the list of participants all at once, without scrolling up and down. which means I won’t be able to see who has the “raised hand” icon on without scrolling back and forth constantly. Any ideas? Or does Zoom magically put people who have raised hands at the top of the list?

    Nervously yours!
    Susan

If I want to record a short welcome back video, or a minilecture, it seems overly complicated to do it through Zoom. Could I just record it using my ipad or something, and upload it somehow to Sakai? There is probably some technical reason I’m not thinking of that makes this suboptimal. I’d love some advice. Thanks! Susan
