Participant@Handa I am finding that a monitor plugged into my laptop resolves issues like this. If you have a flat-screen TV at home you should be able to connect. Put the student icons on the TV screen and whiteboard on your laptop especially if your laptop has touch enabled.

Keymaster@SHanda- As someone else mentioned, a second monitor is a good solution, if you have access to one.
Another option is bringing up the chat window onto the screen that you are sharing. When you’re sharing your screen, no Zoom meeting windows (including the chat) will be displayed on the other participants’ screens. See the section titled “Share Screen Menu” on this Zoom help page for more info.

Participantme again! I am pre-assigning breakout rooms for my Zoom class meeting tomorrow. There are six students whose names don’t come up to allow me to assign them, but they assure me that they have a Zoom account and that it’s working for their other classes. ideas for fixing? Thanks, Susan
nevermind – after I posted this I figured out that I can just type in the email manually and it works!

ParticipantAnother breakout room question–when I try and manually assign students to breakout rooms, I keep getting a message saying ” all students already assigned to breakout rooms”. I didn’t assign anyone to a breakout room. Help?
at #1009Jordan Adams
Keymaster@fcwiss- That’s certainly an unusual issue; I’d try importing a .csv file of the class roster to the breakout rooms assignment.
If that doesn’t resolve the issue, please open a help ticket with 962-HELP, and we’ll get some folks in contact with you to further troubleshoot. Thanks!

ParticipantSince updating my Zoom recording settings based on the recommendations from UNC around privacy, etc. (namely the one about only authenticated users being able to access the recording), I’ve run into some issues with students being able to view cloud recordings of lectures. In getting more details from them, it seems like this is an issue with the UNC sub-accounts. For example, three students in the School of Medicine sub-account and another in the School of Public Health sub-account have all had issues with access. I was previously in the SoM sub-account and was able to talk to IT and have my account moved into the main UNC one so that I could utilize all of the features, so is this what all of these students will need to do as well? Or is there a way to ensure that even UNC sub-account users can get to the recordings while maintaining the security of the videos?

Keymaster@Rebecca I would use Warpwire to upload and share your videos via Sakai. It’s pretty easy to get started, and won’t have any of the limitations concerning conflicting sub-accounts. Thanks!

ParticipantIn BME Biomedical Engineering (School of Medicine), we have many personnel who are classified under CAS College of Arts & Sciences.
A BME tried to put a CAS user as a Alternative Host. The error msg received is: [Email address] is not a user in your Zoom account.I was under the impression that zoom.unc.us would allow you anyone with an Onyen/UNC Email address to serve as Alternative Host.
Is there any way around this?at #1078Paul Wolff
Participant@Eugene – The School of Medicine has it’s own Zoom sub-account that’s different from the main campus Zoom account and you won’t be able to make someone who isn’t in that sub-account an Alternative Host. I’d recommend making a help ticket at help.unc.edu and they may be able to help with this!

ParticipantAnother BME staff member reports she logged into UNC Zoom and was able to put my NC State email as an Alternate Host.
Are external emails allowed to serve as Alternate Hosts?
Or could it be a situation where, somewhere in my UNC HR file is my NCSU email address?
Thank you!at #1083Eugene Yamamura
ParticipantDisregard, tested ext email addresses and I received the error.
Checking with my HR rep to see if my UNC HR profile lists my NCSU email address.at #1084Paul Wolff
Participant@Eugene – Zoom should use your onyen@email.unc.edu as the official email but definitely a good idea to check with HR. It’s also possible your colleague was using a personal Zoom account to add you as an alternate host instead of the UNC account accidentally.

ParticipantDear Paul,
I am having occasional trouble with my Zoom lectures breaking up on the students receiving side. I’m lecturing to 170 student in real-time, using a PPT with embedded videos. I’ve had my students turn off their cameras and they are muted, but am still having the troubles. Unfortunately, it is also translated into the videos that I’m posting of the lecture. I don’t know where the chokepoint is (my home connection, the zoom platform, etc), but do you have any recommendations for trouble shooting this?If I can’t get this sorted, I may need to go with pre-recording the lectures.
Thanks for you input.

ParticipantTowns – it’s hard to say where this is happening, but it’s probably a combination of your home connection and so many people streaming at once. If pre-recording is an option for you, that’s what we’ve been recommending. You could still have your live session to have students ask questions and engage with you about the materials, just ask that students watch the video beforehand.

ParticipantI received this note from a student when the normal troubleshooting for access to zoom cloud recordings didn’t work. Is there a workaround to avoid the additional effort to upload to warpwire? Thanks! Viji
I saw your post on Piazza about having access to Zoom recordings. I have been having this problem in my other classes and had to reach out to ITS about it, so I wanted to go ahead and tell you too. Since my account is listed as a school of medicine account, Zoom doesn’t recognize that I am allowed to view your videos. ITS said the only way for me to have access to these videos is for you to post them through Warpwire on Sakai. I am able to attend live lectures so I am good, but I just wanted to bring this to your attention in case it is coming up with other people. Hopefully it can save you some time!
